|
Must...sleep...now...
11.30.03 (9:46 pm) [edit]
I am sooooo tired, so this will be short. I spent last night with Tim and my mom (and Machelle and Crystal both stopped by at different points) playing Speed and Trivial Pursuit. Of course, my mom completely cleaned up at Trivial Pursuit. But it was a lot of fun anyway (even though it makes me feel stupid... I supposedly was in the best school district in Colorado and yet I don't know simple things like state capitals and info about presidents. Makes me wonder.)
Anyway, I drove back to school today. I was on the road from before sunrise until after sunset. I hate these short winter days. And now I am sitting here trying to do homework for tomorrow and listening to mix cds I got in the mail today from Juan. So, I guess I better finish up so I can go to bed.
Hope everyone has a good week!

What are you thankful for?
11.27.03 (12:48 pm) [edit]
Happy Thanksgiving!
So, I know I have been away for awhile, but now I'm back. ^___^ Break has been great so far. I've just been spending time with my family, friends, and boyfriend. Tim and I hosted "Game Night" at his place last night. We played Scategories and Cranium... and Tim and I won!! I was so happy, 'cause it's the first time our team has won Cranium. The night was a ton of fun.
Right now I am just waiting for everyone to get here so we can start eating!! It's going to be a busy day. We are having Thanksgiving here at my mom's house, then later Tim and I are heading over to his grandma's house for a Polish-version Thanksgiving. After that it's off to my dad's house to see how the Germans do Thanksgiving. All in all, this multicultural day adds up to one thing: stuffing ourselves with waaaay too much food. Aaahhh, it's good to be home. ^___^
My mom received a $50 gift certificate to Denver Chophouse (a really nice steak place) from someone, and she gave it to Tim and me! So I will probably post some pics tomorrow of our lovely night on the town.
Well, the guests should be arriving any minute now... I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving, and enjoy the food as much as I know I will!!
P.S. In response to the subject line: I am thankful to spend this day surrounded by people I love and for having enough food to be able to feast, when so many people have nothing. I am thankful for a warm home, having enough relatives to eat three Thanksgiving dinners, and for just about everything else that I can imagine right now.

And I'm gone...
11.20.03 (10:19 pm) [edit]
Well, I thought I should make a quick update before I leave because it might be a few days before I update again. That's right, kiddos, I'm off to Colorado tomorrow. After my German class tomorrow I am jumping in my car and driving 800 incredibly boring miles through Kansas.
So, I joined this study abroad photo contest. Everyone could submit three photos. All together there were over 75 photos. They made a preliminary vote to narrow it down to 13 photos, and then will make another vote for the winners. Check my last post for the monetary prizes. Anyway, I heard one of my photos made the cut so I went in to see which one. Guess what? ALL THREE MADE IT!! I am so excited! I figure 3 out of 13 makes my chances pretty good about placing first, second, or third. But even if I don't, I am thrilled that I made the final cut!! There were some good photos in there!
Anyway, I've got to go and load my car so that I don't have to do it in the morning. 'Night all!

It's in the Photograph
11.19.03 (7:40 pm) [edit]
My friend called me today and she told me that one of my photos made the final cut in the photo contest. I'm excited! First place is 100 dollars, second place is 50, and third place is 25. I am going to go tomorrow morning and see which one made the cut.
I worked extra time today, and so I don't have to work on Friday. I am going to leave after my first class, and hopefully make it back to Colorado by about 10 p.m.
I'm surprised that this week is actually going by quickly!

a Bliss of another kind
11.18.03 (5:42 pm) [edit]
I am excited, elated, thrilled, joyous, ecstatic, and all those other fun words that I rarely get to use. This is one of the best days in a long time because:
1. Thanksgiving break begins in 3 days 2. No stress-- no papers or tests until [i]after[/i] break 3. My favorite artist ever, Tori Amos, released he new album, "Tales of a Librarian" today 4. My Semester at Sea video [i]finally[/i] got here and my friends are coming over to watch it with me tonight 5. I bought a Death Cab for Cutie CD while I was at the store today
I love this day. ^___^ More updates later after I watch the video. Oh, one more thing- "Professional Widow" has never been my favorite song ever, but I can honestly say that the remix is the worst Tori song [i]ever.[/i]

Why does it always rain on me?
11.17.03 (9:27 pm) [edit]
Does anyone know that Travis song? I have it in my head.
Well, today I wnt to school and work just like normal. But when I walked out of work it was [i]pouring[/i] rain. Even with my umbrella my jeans were soaked by the time I made it to the bus stop. But it's okay... I love the rain. ^__^
So, I hardly ever watch T.V. and I absolutely [i]loath[/i] reality shows. So I have no idea how I have somehow been sucked into the world of "Average Joe." But, I have. So, I just finished watching it, and the girl cut this guy that I am, like, in love with. His name is Tareq (I think that's how you spell it) and he is only 21 and has a PhD and is a college professor because he is brilliant. And he is Indian or something and has an accent and is gorgeous and is a prince or some such thing.
Anyway, that was completely random and I am over it now. Hehe, that was my dive into mainstream America. I'm back now.
Big news: Tori's album comes out tomorrow! Yaaaaaay!! I will be at the store tomorrow morning before I go to class. I am so very excited!! ^___^ But, in sadder news, STILL no SAS video.
Time to do a smidge of homework and call it a night.
P.S. I talked to my mom tonight. I am so excited to go home in four days! Yay for come-cooked food!

[image]RaspberrySwirlGirl _505778585.jpg[/image]
I was looking through some pics on my computer and I found this pic of me and Tim on the Katy Trail when he was out here visiting me last month. Thought I would post it here 'cause it makes me smile. Hehe, what a dorky picture ^__^
P.S. Thought for the day: SweetTarts do not make a good breakfast/lunch/dinner...

Baby, don't look up... the sky is falling
11.16.03 (1:36 pm) [edit]
I am going crazy... I still have six pages left to write in a research paper that is due tomorrow in World Political Geog, plus an entire act to read and translate for German, plus regular reading, plus laundry, plus... ahhhhhhhhhhh!
But it's okay because it is only 5 days till Thanksgiving break. Plus Tori's album comes out on Tuesday, and my SAS video should be here any day now. Breathe, Christina, Breathe. You just have to make it through today...

Fake Plastic Girl
11.15.03 (5:57 pm) [edit]
Her green plastic watering can For her fake Chinese rubberplant In fake plastic earth That she bought from a rubberman In a town full of rubber plans To get rid of itself
It wears her out, It wears her out It wears her out, It wears her out
She lives with a broken man A cracked polystyrene man Who just crumbles and burns He used to do surgery For girls in the eighties But gravity always wins and
It wears him out, It wears him out It wears him out, It wears him out
She looks like the real thing She tastes like the real thing My fake plastic love
But I can't help the feeling I could blow through the ceiling If I just turn and run
It wears me out, It wears me out It wears me out, It wears me out
If I could be who you wanted If I could be who you wanted... All the time
-"Fake Plastic Trees," Radiohead
I am feeling really down tonight. I want to go home... this week needs to pass quickly. I just need to be back with Tim again. And Shell. And Jess. And everyone else.

Three Cheers for Fridays
11.14.03 (1:40 pm) [edit]
Yay for Friday! I am so glad this week is finally over. At this time next week I will be somewhere in the middle of Kansas on my way home for Thanksgiving. Yay!
I think Lexy and I are going to do dinner and a movie tonight. Em went home to St. Louis for the weekend, and Kate is going to the farm tomorrow after the football game, so I will have the house to myself. That will be good, since I have sooooo much homework that I have to get done.
It's gross weather today- kind of rainy and pretty cold. And still no SAS video!!! Meh! Anyway, I'm going to be a good girl and clean the house a bit. Happy Friday everyone!

Got a cloud sleeping on my tounge
11.13.03 (6:42 pm) [edit]
I'm still feeling icky, so this will be short. I actually skipped my Criminology class today to come home and sleep. Then tonight my roommates and I went to Panera for soup in a breadbowl. Yummy. That always helps. :)
Kate saw a preview for Harry Potter today... it isn't coming out until June!! But I won't get started on my HP rant right now.
Hmmm... I would write more, but the heater just came on and I have the undeniable urge to go and sit on it while curled up in a blanket. I hate being cold. :)
Tomorrow is Friday!! Yay! And then only a week until Thanksgiving break!

11.12.03 (7:57 pm) [edit]
I have that song stuck in my head.
I just typed a long update, and then my stupid internet decided to stop working and I lost it. Grrrr. I am feeling really poopy and tired today. I think I might be getting sick. So, therefore, I have no desire to re-type the whole friggin' thing. So, no update today... maybe tomorrow. Just a few quick comments:
1. Still no SAS video in the mail. Arg. 2. I am so sick of school... junior year is always the worst. 3. I hope I'm not getting sick! But if I am, better now than over break. 4. Reminder to self: Re-type stuff about Christmas presents in future update.
Have a good night, kiddos.

Cloudy Days and Dinner Parties
11.10.03 (4:05 pm) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Exhausted
Not good to start off the week this tired, but that's what I get for being up till three a.m. doing homework.
Today is yucky weather. It's all cloudy and drizzly, although not too cold. The kind of day where you want to curl up under blankets and watch movies or read a book (I started Neil Gaiman's [i]Neverwhere[/i] today... I'm a big fan so far). I wish I had gotten my SAS video in the mail today... stupid Vetran's Day tomorrow with no mail. Ah, well, hopefully on Wednesday.
We are having another dinner party tonight. :) Justin is cooking for me, Lex, Kate, Emily, Robyn, and Elizabeth. Should be good times. I'm hungry just thinking about it.
Well, I know this was kind of pointless. Maybe later I will have more to talk about.

Enlightenment: Don't wait till Sunday night to do your homework
11.09.03 (8:01 pm) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Stressed
It is 9:40 on Sunday night and I still have a crazy amount of homework to do. Sometimes I think the weekends are worse than the weekdays. I still have half of "Die Umsiedlerin" to read for German Lit, plus a three-page essay on Goethe, Faust, and the Enlightenment for my German Civ class. Meh.
I finished [i]Life of Pi[/i] today. It was good. It sort of reminded me of [i]The Old Man and the Sea[/i] in a way, but better and not so repetitive. Towards the end it got a bit unbelieveable, like the island colony of meerkats (although somehow the whole book I was able to fathom a boy in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger). But I liked it anyway.
Alright, that was a nice little 5-minute break... now back to homework. I had really been looking forward to getting to bed at a descent hour tonight, too. Oh, well. There's always tomorrow...

It's a small, small world
11.08.03 (7:38 pm) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Happy :)
I've been having a good weekend. Last night I dragged Emily and Alexis to see "Elf" with me. It wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be, but it was still cute. It had its moments.
I've spent today relaxing. Leisure reading ([i]The Life of Pi[/i]), running errands, and doing a bit of homework. I went to a CNSA potluck tonight (Cross-National Students Association). All I can say is this: YUM. We had sushi from Japan, Iranian, French and Indian foods, chili, Bulgarian food, a hot pot, a Korean student brought yummy ramen-type noodle soup with kimchi. And let's not forget all the cookies and other goodies for dessert. Wow, I love being part of international organizations... especially when they involove food. :D And, in addition, I am now head of the dance committee. Since I had the bright idea to hold montly sessions to learn dance styles from other countries (i.e. one month salsa, next month line dancing, next month tango, etc.) I now get to organize it. But it should be fun and easy, and I can put it on a resume.
On a side note, I saw a commercial today for SPAM. Yes, SPAM. It scared the daylights out of me.
Well, I best be going. I am going to watch my Semester at Sea slide show and be bitter that my video still hasn't arrived (especially since Tuesday is a holiday which means NO MAIL). Then perhaps Emily and I will do something. I love weekends (until tomorrow, when I have loads of homework to do).
P.S. Only two weeks till Thanksgiving break!! :D

The end of Suede
11.06.03 (7:36 pm) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Relieved
My student loan money finally came in (with 4.5 weeks left in the semester) and I was able to afford to buy a really warm sweater. :D I'm just relieved that now I can pay the rest of my overdue tuition.
The Semester at Sea people called me today (after I left them three messages) and apparently my video got lost in the mail somewhere. AHHHHHH! I have been waiting for it for months! Literally! When I gave them my address to resend it, and I said Missouri, he said "Okay, MS" and I was like "Noooooo... MO". Now I know why the video never made it to me. Apparently it is somewhere in Mississippi right now.
So Suede announced today that they are breaking up, and Tim seems to think the world is ending. I tried to tell him it's just a band and it was bound to happen sooner or later, and that Brett Anderson is going to do solo stuff now, but he is inconsolable. I guess I just don't understand... I love music, but not [i]that[/i] much. Then again, the entire Suede fan base seems to be having the same reaction as him.
I am happy that tomorrow is Friday. Lex, Emily, and I are going to try and see "Elf" tomorrow. I am excited! Which reminds me... "Lost in Translation" is finally making it to a theater here... but over Thanksgiving Break while I am going to be in Colorado! Arg!
Anyway, I better get going, I have part 2 of my German Literature exam tomorrow. :( Wish me luck!

Pasta + Blankets + No Homework= Bliss
11.05.03 (8:17 pm) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Comfy (full tummy and wrapped up in blankets)
Yesterday was in the 70s. Today, the 40s. Mother Nature cannot do this to me- I need time to get used to winter! Overnight is too quick!
Today was a good day, other than the miserable German Literature test I had. Just a normal day- school, work- but good anyway.
After class I went over to Lex's house and we watched "Darkness Falls"- one of the movies we rented for Halloween but never watched. It was enough to make you afraid of the Tooth Fairy. Then her brother joined us and we all went downtown for dinner at Addisons. Now I am sitting at home wrapped in blankets to keep warm (we haven't turned the heat on yet) and reveling in the fact that I have no homework due in my classes tomorrow.
I got an email from Yumika today... apparently she made it to Vietnam. I am so jealous! Damn SARS for ruining my trip! I really miss her; she was my best friend and we literally travelled around the world together, but now it seems like a dream. It feels like yesterday, but it feels like so long ago at the same time. I am ready to get back out into the world again...
I wish I was exploring some foreign country with Yumika right now, with nothing but our cameras, journals, and a little money in our backpacks.

Longing for Solitude
11.04.03 (7:11 pm) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Annoyed
I wish I could afford to live on my own; my roommates are driving me crazy. Our kitchen is a mess again- I think it is slowly becoming a health hazard. My vow to not clean up after them anymore has only led to the dishes piling up- not a single clean knife in the house this afternoon when I made a bagel. Then my roommate's husband burnt his dinner. When the fire alarm went off, he simply pulled it off the ceiling. And don't even get my started on their kitten...
Arg. Can't we all just live like civilized people?

Tales of a Librarian
11.04.03 (9:41 am) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Anticipatory
I just wanted to explain the banner. Tori's new album comes out on November 18, and I put the banner up until I have my own for Mojoblog.
I'm excited... the album has two new songs (Angels and Snow Cherries from France) as well as a bunch of songs chronicling her career up until now (including Sweet Dreams and Mary- ultra-rare B-sides). All original versions of the songs, too, not just album versions. And there is a DVD with songs from some of the last shows on her Scarlet's Walk tour.
So, I am extremely excited. You can get more info about it at http://www.thedent.com or http://www.toriamos.com.

Good morning sun...
11.04.03 (9:34 am) [edit]
Mood Right Now: Sleepy
So, I got more sleep last night than I have in a while, only to wake up this morning feeling more tired than I have been! Funny how that works, isn't it? So I just lay in bed for a bit rather than doing work or homework or taking in applications. Hehe. What a slacker.
I started the book [i]Life of Pi[/i] last night, seems promising. Poor kid was apparently named after a swimming pool. I'm excited because it starts in India... brings back memories. Then there is the whole thing about being stranded on a boat in the ocean... hmmm... makes me miss the sea and travel (although my experiences were pretty opposite of being in a liferaft with a Bengal tiger...)
Anyway, I suppose I should get going to class. We're going over the test we took Thursday in my Criminology class. :? Till later...

Mood Right Now: Content
It seems another week is upon us already. My friend Machelle was here visiting me this weekend from Colorado and we had an awesome time, but now it's back to the real world. Between papers, tests, homework, roommates, work study, looking for a new job, and everything else, all I can say is I'm gald it's November. I am counting down the days until Thanksgiving break!
November's 26 Things Photographic(http://www.sh1ft.org/26things...) was posted, so I'm getting excited about that. I think I am going to do one set in Missouri and one set in Colorado when I am home at the end of the month.
Well, I should get started on my homework so I'm not up until 2 or 3 this morning. These nights of averaging five hours of sleep are slowly catching up with me. So, until next time, kiddos...

Hello and welcome!
11.02.03 (7:26 pm) [edit]
So, this is my first entry. Just wanted to say hello (and post something to start getting tbucks  ). I'm new to the whole blogging thing, although my boyfriend and many people I know are pretty serious bloggers. So, anyway, I guess I'll just go with it and see how it works. I might be posting some old entries from other blogs just to get them all on one page (I've done xanga and easyjournal). We'll see. Have fun, and I'll try to also.
P.S. A fun picture of me my boyfriend took and had some fun with: [image]RaspberrySwirlGirl _1177160015.jpg[/image]
